Faculty of Energy Technology study programmes

Faculty of Energy Technology is one of the younger members of University of Maribor. University of Maribor is the second largest Slovene university and has seventeen faculties.

All courses of the Faculty of Energy Technology, University of Maribor (FET) are in line with the Bologna Declaration, which allows a high degree of electives. Student can choose a part of coursework in the areas of: Hydropower, Thermal energy, Nuclear energy, Alternative Energy and Universal Energy. FET programmes are tailored to the needs of the economy, which was also involved in preparation of the curriculum. Study is carried out in the energy environments where students can be in direct contact with large energy systems.

Recognition of Foreign Education for the Purpose of Further Education

Recognition of Foreign Education for the Purpose of Further Education at the UM
Candidates who prove admission requirements with foreign previous education and wish to continue their education at the University of Maribor must, in accordance with the Assessment and Recognition of Education Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 87/11, 97/11. - ex. and 109/12), obtain the Decision on recognition of foreign education for the purpose of further education at the University of Maribor.

The procedure for recognition of foreign education can only be initiated by submitting an online application form for enrolment via the eVŠ web portal. The online application for enrolment also serves as an application for the initiation of the procedure for recognition of foreign academic qualifications. Candidates who submit an incomplete application or application for recognition of education for the purpose of continuing education will individually receive additional information on the request and the deadline to supplement the application by regular mail or electronically via the eVŠ web portal.

Candidates are recommended to begin the process of recognition in a timely manner. The deadline for issuing a decision on the recognition under the Act on the Recognition and Assessment of Education (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 87/2011, Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 97/2011 - corr. and Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 109/2012) is two months from the receipt of a complete application.

Profile of the graduates

A graduate of the Faculty of Energy Technology will be able to design, lead, manage and maintain energy systems of all sizes, as well as being equipped with the knowledge required to connect machinery and devices into a technologically operational energy system. He will not be a constructor of energy technology devices and machinery; this knowledge will remain under the purview of the Faculties of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Our graduates will be capable of designing and managing the construction of the largest systems for exploitation of alternative and
renewable energy sources. Graduates of the Faculty will also processess knowledge from areas such as ecological standards, energy management, energy trade, etc.

Why study at the Faculty of energy technology?

The reasons for development of the courses of energy technology originate from the lack of experts in this field; this lack has frequently been a publically expressed necessity. Energy technology experts, such as those educated by the Faculty of Energy Technology, are highly sought in Slovenia (there are not sufficient numbers of them), since this is an expressly interdisciplinary oriented course, intended primarily for management of the different energy technologies. The nearest faculty active in terms of a similar course of study is in Aachen, Germany.

Job opportunities

The profile of a graduate of the Faculty of Energy Technology is highly sought in Slovenia. The completed analyses indicate that most of the graduates are able to find employment each year. The increasing number of commercial companies operating in the energy field offer scholarships to students of the Faculty. Energy experts are employable in different fields: research and academic institutions, government organizations, bodies of local self-government and, of course, in the private sector.
